The West Michigan Fire Juniors and Holland Hospital will be combining forces throughout the winter of 2008. We want to educate and raise awareness amongst our players about the effects of serious injuries and how to properly train in order to reduce the possibilities of incurring one. Among such possible programs being discussed are ACL prevention and Nutrition seminars as well as special programming to be offered for all ages and teams throughout the club.
It is our goal at the FIRE, to educate the players and their families at an early age about risk factors that predetermine an athlete to serious injury and ways to help prevent possible career ending injuries such as an ACL tear. The ACL, anterior cruciate ligament, connects the upper leg bone with the lower leg bone. It’s function is to stablize the knee during stopping and starting motions as well as changes of direction. An ACL tear most often requires surgery to repair the damage with a recovery time of about 6 months before an athlete can take the field again. Through the use of the Vertimax machine and other training tools and techniques, the Holland Hospital staff will be educating and strengthening our players against injury, such as an ACL tear.
The West Michigan Fire Juniors are committed to offering each one our of players every opportunity to be successful on the field and to develop each one into the best soccer player they can become through hard work, training and proper coaching. We feel that sports performance training is a key element to any athlete’s development and continued growth in soccer. Each program will be age appropriate and tailored specifically to the sport of soccer and those muscles used while playing. Just as it is important for a player to learn the correct foot skills and techniques in order to control the ball, so it is important for your son or daughter to learn the proper techniques on how to balance and move their body with control and coordination on the field.
We are excited about the possibilities of our partnership with Holland Hospital and invite each one of you to come join us as we continue to help all our players strive to reach their fullest potential.
